I have the Mets taking 6’8 225 lb Matt Smoral from Solon HS in Solon, Ohio. Coming into the season Smoral was projected as a possible top 10 pick but he suffered a stress fracture in his foot pitching on a makeshift mound on a football field. This ended his season so scouts will not get to see him throw before the draft. But scouts know enough about his size, delivery and some scouts have a 60 grade on a 20-80 scale on his fastball (touches 94) and breaking ball. One person told me he thought Smoral was similar to San Francisco’s Madison Bumgarner.
