Help at 2B
The Mets offense was horrible in 2010. Shocking revelation to all of you out there reading this. One position where the Mets clearly can upgrade offensively is at 2b. These are a few guys worth looking at to try and solve that problem
Ryan Raburn Tigers- Sadly, Raburn was nearly a Met in 2009 before Omar Minaya balked at the Tigers asking price of….. Brian Stokes. Raburn is not a household name yet since opening day 2009 has a line of 285/348/498-846 with 36 doubles 3 triples 31 homers. Would the Tigers trade the soon to be 30 year old Raburn? I have no idea but he is a player worth taking a look at.
Jed Lowrie Red Sox- Lowie was a college triple crown winner and has been highly thought of for years. Most teams (including the Red Sox) don’t believe he can play passable SS (and the Sox have Scutaro at the Major League Level and Iglesias in the minors) with former league MVP Dustin Pedroia at 2b which makes the soon to be 27 year old Lowrie likely available “for the right price”. Lowrie’s career has been slowed by injury but put up a whopping .907 OPS this year in 171 ab’s and it would be a surprise to noone if he becomes a top 10 offensive 2b.
Aaron Hill Blue Jays (I already touched on him here-http://stlucietoflushing.com/?p=132)
Dan Uggla Marlins- We all know what Uggla can do. 2010 he had a career year and the Marlins have sent signals they plan on trying to keep him. Uggla reportedly is looking for 5 years 58 million (which he likely won’t get from anyone even on the open market following 2011) but if the Marlins and Uggla can’t reach a deal the Mets absolutely should be interested in acquiring the 2b bopper.
Howie Kendrick (already touched on him here-http://stlucietoflushing.com/?p=132)

Clearly the Mets need an (offensive) upgrade at 2B but given the organization’s recent epic struggles with injuries to players I would hesitate to add Lowrie, and to a lesser extent Kendrick, to the mix.
Hill at least seems to be over his concussion issues, and Rayburn and & Uggla have no such worrisome past health issues, so if I were whittling down the choices I would have to strongly consider steering clear of Lowrie and perhaps Kendrick.
I understand that both gentleman may very well play the next 5 years without so much as a day-to-day issue but the Mets are not in the position to take health risk gambles in my opinion.

Not a real fan of Kendrick and the Angels seem to have really emptied enough of their middle infielders in their system to make him somewhat less available.
I’m a Lowrie fan but the lack of power around Wright will need to compensated with Davis’ power really coming around, and Bay a/o Beltran healthy. He’s a nice guy to have down the lineup but nothing more should be expected of him.
I actually thought of the non-tender candidate Jose Lopez but then I really took a look at his numbers. Yikes.
If Ben Zobrist is available, I would look into that and maybe Raburn’s Detroit teammate Scott Sizemore.
Really a shame that Havens got hurt when it looked like a breakout for him that could have resulted in a call-up to really take a look at him.
